It is one of the most precious treasuries of national art and culture, set up in 1905 by Andrey Sheptyts’kyi. Museum fond collections comprise of 140 thousand items. The largest, most valuable and complete museum’s collection of Medieval sacral art of 12-18 th centuries includes icons, manuscripts and old printed books, decorative carvings, repoussage, embroidered materials. The museum contains a unique relic of Ukrainian Baroque – Bogorodchans’kyi iconostas.

Art-memorial museum of Oleksa Novakivs’kyi (the branch of Lviv national museum of A. Sheptyts’kyi) was set up in 1972 on the villa, where during 1913-1935 an outstanding Ukrainian painter, Oleksa Novakivs’kyi, lived and worked.

In Galicia Oleksa Novakivs’kyi established the first private Ukrainian art school, which functioned during 1920 – 30. Permanent exhibition of the museum shows the main stages of the artist’s life and work, represents him as inspired painter, creator of splendid paintings, full of patriotism and deep philosophical meditations.

Lviv art gallery has been working in the house, owned by a famous hstorian and collector Vladyslav Lozyns’kyi since 1914 (the house built from1872 to 1874, architect Pokuts’kyi)

An exposition in the premises of the gallery introduce all main styles and tendencies of European art of ХІХ-ХХ centuries (Empire, Romanticism, Impressionism, Modernist, New Byzantism and others), reviles the general context of the development of art life in Lviv. Collections of European art, Lviv portrait, Ukrainian portrait of XVI-XІХ centuries, icons and furniture are rated among the most precious exhibits. The museum owns unique works of Polish and Austrian artists.

The beautiful palace has been transmitted to the Lviv Gallery in 2001. The collection of European art of XIV-XVIII centauries is perfectly presented there. The Palace – is a bright sample of the late historical architecture, one of the most interesting architecture monuments in Lviv.

The exposition of Lviv Art Gallery is opened on the first flour. It starts in the Hall of antique art. The European art of XIV-XVIII centauries is represented with the best compositions of the collection: Ukrainian icon XV centaury “Holly Paraskevia”, canvas of M. Basaiti, Ja. Tsukki, S. Ricci, J.E. Liotar, J. Geren, F. Goya. The meetings of presidents, conferences, presentations and chamber concerts are often taking place in the Palace.

The temple of John the Baptist is one of the most ancient in Lviv. This is the monument of architecture of the ХІІІ-ХХ centuries. One of the versions about the foundation of the temple says that the church was built after the marriage of prince Lew and Hungarian princes Konstanz in 1247. The first written reminiscence dates on 1371. During the following centuries the temple underwent little destruction after the fire and was rebuilt few times. During the Soviet period the building was used as economic premises for the hospitale, which is situated nearby.

The museum of ancient Lviv monuments was initiated in this temple as a branch of Lviv Art Gallery in 1993. The exposition of the Museum presents he archaeological findings, antiquities, art creations, which also show the most ancient period of the establishment of Lviv city.

The building of the museum is the pearl of Renaissance culture, built in 1580 on the project of Petro Barbon for the rich Lviv merchant, Greek by origin, Konstiantyn Korniakta. The house of Korniakta has a wonderful inner yard of the 16 th century with open galleries and arcades. In 1993 in the “King halls” of the museum there was arranged an exposition “Historical treasures”,which presents the most precious art relics of the 17–19 century – furniture, painting, ancient clocks, porcelain, artistic glass, ancient orders.

The building (No. 4) of the museum on the Rynok square was built in 1588-1589. It is unique architectural monument of XVI century, known as “Black stone house”. The exposition of the museum tracks the most important events of the history of Ukraine since the establishing of the state till the 1940s. In particular, the history of fight of the legion of Ukrainian Sichovi Stril’tsi, the events of national liberation revolution of 1917–1921 in the East Ukraine and Galicia (UNR, Hetmanat of Skoropads’kyi, WUNR) are presented. Also the period of West Ukraine’s history during Poland (1929-1939) and the Soviet Union (1939–1941) rule is displayed.

In the halls of the Arsenal since 1981 has been working an exhibition of ancient cold, metal weapon, fire-arms, protection armaments and ammunition of more than 30 countries. The collection of cold weapon is the most widely presented. Visitors are attracted by the exquisite ornaments on the knives and daggers of the Caucasus and Arabic East nations. Museum Arsenal is the branch of Lviv Historical museum.

The museum building (No. 24) on the Rynok square is one of the oldest buildings in Lviv. An exposition on the history of ancient world and middle ages is displayed in the museum. The exposition, based on the materials excavated on the territory of West regions of Ukraine, traces the history of Galicia from the paleolith to the period of Slavonic settling in the 8th century. The exposition also features the unique relics: flint hand plane, the oldest musical instrument – bone pipe, that is 20 thousand years old, pained ceramics of the tribes of Trypillya culture.

The museum holds approximately 680 objects’ collection of furniture which contains of single objects of different main stylistic tendencies, peculiar to the development of the applied decorative art in Europe from XVI till the beginning of XX centuries.

The museum owns a big collection of porcelain, faience, majolica and artistic glass. The collection includes more then 11 thousand displays of the different style, period and place of production, material and the type of decorating.

The museum of a famous Ukrainian singer Solomiya Krushel’nytska is situated in her former house.

The museum was established thanks to the sacrificing work of Odarka Bandrivs’ka, the niece of Solomiya Krushel’nytska. She gathered an infinite number of documents, personal things, photos, connected with the life and scenic career of the famous singer. This reserve has become the basis of the museum exposition and is a sufficient part of the whole collection, which comprises 16 thousand items.

Pharmacy-museum is situated on the Rynok square in the angular house, from which the streets Drukarska and Stavropihijska begin. In this house already two and a half of centuries work the most ancient withing working pharmacies in Lviv. It is uniquee in Ukraine and Europe – working pharmacy at the same time - museum. There is a unique museum complex, in which are demonstrated rare exhibits, assembled by scientists, pharmacists and collectors. The exposition comprises of more than 3 thousand exhibits.

The museum situated close to the opera house in the center of Lviv, was opened on May 6, 1999. The museum activity is based on non-profit basis, and the entrance in free of charge, so the museum depends on the donations to cover all expenses.

Museum contains over 260 embroidered icons and other pictures made by Father Blazejowskyj. Besides the permanent exhibit, the museum frequently hosts meetings, seminars and exhibits of other people, especially those who have made copies of his designs.

The museum-apartment was opened on the 7th of March in 2004. The basis for the creation of museum-apartment were the original works of Lviv artists, who have travelled through the way of “Kobzar” (Ukraine, Lithuania (Vilnius), Russia (Petersburg), Kazakhstan) during eight expeditions (1997–2003).

The library of the museum preserves Shevchenko’s works, edited in different times, catalogues of the museums, titled by his name and also literary reviews about Taras Shevchenko.
